Westcote Bell Pottery was established in 1983 in a small rural village South of London, England. Co-founders Vaughan Smith and Jacqueline M. Cohen are a husband and wife team. They both taught school for 5 years until they returned to the United States in 1985.Their move to Mansfield, Ohio, where they set up a new studio lasted two years. Jacqueline then started a masters program at Ohio State University in Columbus. Vaughan set up a new studio in German Village, Columbus , Ohio. Their new studio thrived and expanded, they sold through 100 galleries and museums, while exhibiting in craft shows across the Eastern United States. In 1994 they moved to a small rural village called High Falls in New York State, 90 miles north of Manhattan. They moved into a 200 year old Eyebrow colonial and built a studio/gallery. After 17 years they moved to Nova Scotia and renovated a 160 year old boat house on the LaHave River estuary, next to the Fort Point Light house and the LaHave River Bakery. The new studio has been set up to continue making their unique style of pottery, but this studio will have a teaching area for classes and workshops. The pictures below show the old studio gallery, new images will be posted soon.

The images above show the temporary showroom located in the pottery studio area. Eventually this area will be used for teaching classes and the showroom will be moved upstairs. We are now producing pottery and by May we will have a full range of our work. There will be many changes to our web site during the next 5 months and many new pieces. We can do mail order but the shipping is more expensive from Canada and it is possible to incur a customs fee. The Post Office is less likely to charge this fee. UPS charges by dimensional weight which means a bowl that weighs only 1/2lb may be charged for 6lbs because of the size of the box needed to ship it safely. It makes sense to nest multiple pieces in a box, shipping 4 pieces instead of one may not incur additional shipping charges. If a brokerage fee is charged it is a flat fee click here to see the rates. This brokerage fee seems to be random and rarely imposed.
